The Burning House

What would you bring if your house were on fire? If you were about to lose everything except those last few items your grabbed before running out of your soon to be nonexistent house? The Burning House asks what would one bring if his or house were in a burning in a fire. One must think about what is valuable, what give one inspiration, what is practical to take, and what is sentimental to one. People from France to Florida, photographers to high school students, send in photo submissions of what they would bring with them if their house were burning. Each of the objects one would bring are meticulously placed in the photographs suggesting a lot of time and thought are put into these lists that have been created.
Looking at the photographs that people upload to the website it is possible to get inside one’s mind and begin to get to know one’s personality. Comparing lists composed by a sixteen year old high school student from Florida with a list composed by a farm hand from Canada. Each of the lists are completely different illuminating each of their personalities through what is important to them. The majority of the lists contain a cell phone or laptop emphasizing how much technology means in this day of society. Technology not being the only important thing to people in this day though many of the submissions have a focus on one’s favorite book or the journal he or she writes in demonstrating that there is more to life then the use of technology.
